Elementary News: 5th & 6th Grade

February Fun from the Fifth and Sixth Grade Classroom

by Paula Tichota

February 26, 2010

In honor of Black History month, the fifth and sixth grade students researched famous black Americans in library class. The students used this information to write reports and make posters about these famous people. We learned about Phillis Wheatley, Bill Cosby, George Washington Carver and many others. This was a fun and interesting project.

On February 3, the entire elementary celebrated 100 days of school! We worked together to create 100 valentines. These valentines were sent to a children's hospital for distribution. We enjoyed making them and hope the recipients enjoyed them also.

We had our Valentine's party on February 12th. We exchanged valentine's, watched a movie and enjoyed treats from Savanna and Destiny. Thanks!

During this month, we have worked hard on our Americanism essays for our local auxiliary. The assigned topic was "What is My Patriotic Role as a U.S. Citizen?". Our artwork was also prepared for the Howells GFWC art contest. Destiny was notified that she was the state winner for the grade 4-6 division of the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts' poster contest. Destiny will be awarded a $50 savings bond. Congratulations Destiny!
