Cornhusker Girls State

by Robin Groene

January 12, 2010

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Nebraska's Cornhusker Girls Sate will be held on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus June 6 - 12, 2010.  Howells' local American Legion Auxiliary selects the delegate and alternate from the junior girls that apply.

Cornhusker Girls State is a short course in the practical application of Nebraska government.  During the week the girls will elect their own state, county and city officials who will actually conduct many phases of government work.  More information is available at www.cornhuskergirlsstate.net

Junior girls interested in applying will be asked to write a brief summary of their high school activities and why they would like to attend Girls State.  The girls will also have a short interview with ladies from the Howells American Legion Auxiliary.  The deadline for applying is Wednesday, February 10, 2010.
