Students Compete in Academic Contest

On Monday, April 28th, students in grades 9-12 tested their academic abilities in specific subjects against students from other schools. Howells entered 22 students in 32 tests at the Annual Northeast Community College Inter-High School Scholastic Contest. The students took tests in subjects they excel in at the high school. In some subjects, there were as many as 45 students taking the test. Many students were able to garner a top three finish in their test.
Agri-Science: Matthew Kampschnieder, 1st place
Biology: Cody Hegemann, 2nd place
English Composition: Heather Kampschnieder, 1st place
Music: Lee, Sang Jun, 1st place
Parenting/Child Development: Sidney Blum, 2nd place
Spanish II: Andrea Wetovick, 2nd place
SMAW (Arc Welding): Nick Wieman, 1st place
World History: Emily Chebuhar, 2nd place
Additionally, five students competed in the quiz bowl competition. The competition featured 30 schools and Howells was able to advance to the round of 8, losing to the team that went on to win the competition. Participants in the quiz bowl were Ryan Dirkschneider, Eric Burenheide, Amanda Tomka, Derek Brester, and Marissa Litty.
