Spanish II Students Travel to Omaha

by Traci Sindelar

May 01, 2008

After raising funds through working at the concession stand, 25 Spanish II students were able to enjoy a fun-filled day in Omaha. The group traveled to El Museo Latino, the only Latino museum in the mid-west. Their guide, Silvia, discussed the history of the museum and surrounding areas. Additionally, she spoke of her own immigration to the United States with her family from Mexico when she was only four or five years old. The students were able to enjoy the artwork housed at the museum. The theme at the museum at that time was Huichol yarn work. After viewing several very intricate yarn designs, the students were given a chance to create their own pieces of work. Traditionally, the Huicholes used beeswax to make the yarn stick together, but the students were given simple glue. After completing their projects, the students enjoyed lunch at La Mesa. The students enjoyed authentic Mexican food, especially the tortilla chips! FIELD TRIP 2008 SLIDESHOW
