Mr. Laughlin, along with members of the high school chorus and band, put on an exciting pops concert on Tuesday, February 26th. The choir opened the concert with “I Walk the Line: The Music of Johnny Cash.” This selection included three Johnny Cash songs: “I Walk the Line”, “Ring of Fire,” and “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky.” The choir also sang “Life is a Highway” and “You’re the One That I Want,” a single from the movie Grease. When the choir was done singing, the Rock Band played six awesome songs. “Proud Mary,” “The Hey Song,” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” were previously played at games and concerts, but the band also performed three new songs: “Old Time Rock and Roll,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “House of the Rising Sun.” The Rock Band had the crowd on their feet before the end of the concert, and people seemed to enjoy the show. “Wow,” exclaimed Mr. Laughlin, “this was a very exciting concert. Seniors struck by plague
By Matthew Kampschnieder

The school year is drawing to a close. The smell of graduation is in the air, and the seniors are in big trouble. It has been reported that a case of senioritis is going around, and spreading very quickly. Senioritis is a very serious disease in which intense laziness and complaining takes the brain over when it comes to schoolwork, or anything involved with school. Sadly, the only cure for it is for school to get over as quickly as possible. As a senior, the end of the year is never ending. Senior projects need to be finished, scholarships are all due, and graduation plans need to be decided. No wonder seniors get tired and lazy at the end of the year. There is too much to worry about, too many deadlines, and not enough time to spend hanging out with friends, enjoying the rest of the senior year. These are some of the best years of our life and need to be savored and enjoyed. So in all seriousness, the seniors, in my opinion are doing a great job of coping with the end of the year horror. They are being as lazy as possible and complaining about every little bit of homework they receive, carrying on the tradition at Howells High School, “Keep up the laziness seniors. We have almost reached the end.”

Movie Review: Vantage Point
By Keith J. Cech

Since the assassination of JFK America has feared a repeated action. In this age of terrorism and threats being made on a daily basis, another assassination isn’t that far of a stretch. In Vantage Point we see the events of the assassination of the president unfold from several different perspectives. The film takes place in Spain at a large rally where the president has begun taking steps to end the war on terrorism. It is there, in a large open plaza, that the president of the United States gets shot from an unknown assassin. We see the assassination happen from several different “vantage points” until we get to see the entire story unfold from the assassins’ point of view. This film will keep you on the edge of your seat! So many twists and turns lead into an interlacing story that comes full circle at the end. The films only “problem” (if you could even call it that) would be the rewinding sequences when you go back to see the same story play out from another perspective. It can get a little repetitive at times, but each time you see a little bit more of the story unfold, and it leaves you wanting more. The story is absolutely incredible, giving the audience a whole new look at modern technology and a scary look into how far people will go to be “one step ahead” of Americans. This is one of the most suspenseful films I’ve ever seen, and it will no doubt be added to my DVD collection a few months from now. I give this film 5/5 stars.

Easter is coming
By Cory Brester

Easter was originally a pagan festival, but when people were converting them to Christianity they allowed them to celebrate their festivals only in Christian ways. The Easter bunny also came from the pagans, but the Germans brought the symbol to America. The Easter egg however was a symbol of rebirth so people exchanged them on this feast day. In earlier days the eggs were often wrapped in a golden leaf, or colored with the dye from flower petals. The Christians celebrate Easter as the resurrection of Jesus. They have a 40-day period before Easter called lent and this is to prepare for the resurrection of Jesus.

Horoscopes
By Britney Konicek

Pisces February 19-March 20
Your dreams and goals are on the table now and you may be able top make amazing progress if you stick to your ideals. Don't back down -- people are looking for signs of weakness today!

Aries March 21 - April 19
Listen to your ego -- it's got a lot to tell you today! Don't worry about appearances, because your ambitions can't possibly take you too far field. Things may need to calm down next week, though.

Leo July 23- Aug. 22
You may feel like you are simply being left out of the equation. Perhaps you feel like the oddball - who simply does not have a place to fit in. Just because you may be feeling out of place today doesn't mean that this is your destiny for life. If you don't like the course you are on, change your position. If you don't like the people you are with, move on to a different social circle.

Sagittarius Nov 22- Dec 21
Remember that the best way to create harmony among others is to first establish harmony within yourself. The boundary lines may get a bit ambiguous at times. People may pull on your heartstrings in order to manipulate you into doing what they want. Don't fall for this trick.

Taurus Apr 20- May 20
Different strokes for different folks. Today, more people around you will differ in their beliefs from yours. Rather than clash with all of them, listen respectfully to their opinions. Then only if absolutely necessary. Great day to expose yourself to other points of view.

Virgo Aug 23- Sept 22
Today your leadership skills are stronger than usual. So much so, that you should put yourself into situations where you can take a greater leadership role. You'll find you're especially effective when you get out in front and lead others by example. Great day to invite friends to join you.

Capricorn Dec 22- Jan 19
Others may lean on you and although you usually don't mind, today it can be especially annoying. It's just not fair that everyone else is free to be weird and off the wall while you are the stabilizing factor. People trust you! But now you might just surprise someone by acting out of character in order to restore balance to the relationship.

Gemini May 21- June 21
Your inventive mind can take you anywhere today. Although smart people provide you with the mental stimulation that you need now. You prefer a witty engagement with someone who can keep up with your appreciation for the intellectual games that you love so much. This is all fine and dandy, but don't let your feelings get lost in the noise of your cleverness.

Libra Sept 23- Oct 23
Your career was showing positive, and at that time you probably enjoyed the progress you made. Clearly you were getting closer to knowing what you wanted to achieve, and talks that developed showed promise. However, suddenly all the good progress you had made stopped dead.

Aquarius Jan 20- Feb 18
Usually after a party is over - when it gets too late, out or the food is reduced to the last few crumbs on the serving plates - guests begin to leave. You will still have plenty of support for your aims and enough clout to make them happen!

Cancer June 22- July 22
Group dynamics are tricky right now -- too many cooks are in the kitchen. In this crowd of egos, the best role for you is 'observer.' Watch for different ideas and help organize them. Keep people focused on the task at hand and help them avoid going off on tangents. Powerful people will take note of everything you did.

Scorpio Oct 24- Nov 21
Innovative thinking can be intimidating sometimes, but try not to let it freak you out. Be open to new ideas right now -- you have the insight and wisdom to recognize a good thing when it comes along, so trust yourself. Keep your eyes peeled: If you see a crowd of people running and screaming, then go see what they were running from and screaming about. You'll learn something they'll never know. You're your own person!
