These include both norm-referenced assessments (those assessments used to compare students against each other) and criterion-referenced assessments (those assessments designed to measure students attainment of a given body of knowledge) Students grades 2-8 are given the Iowa tests of Basic Skills. Students grades 9-11 are given the Tests of Achievement and Proficiency. These are norm-referenced assessments. On norm-referenced assessments a score of 50 is considered average. Grade 10 takes a pre-college test called the PLAN. The scores for the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the PLAN are listed below. 2006-07 National Student Norms Percentile Scores for the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) and ITED (Iowa Test of Educational Development) Grade #/Students Total Total Total Reading Math Test 2 1 * * * 3 5 60 40 53 4 7 46 44 58 5 5 38 30 43 6 5 42 58 56 7 21 59 77 69 8 28 67 68 71 9 24 58 68 67 10 28 60 59 65 11 30 63 65 63 Another measure of student achievement is the American College Test (ACT).
